Guided Cow Elk Hunt Essay Contest
The Idaho Fish and Game in cooperation with a private ranch in the Franklin county area is sponsoring an essay contest. The winners will be taken on a guided cow elk hunt in the latter part of October or the first of November. The essay contest is for 7th and 8th grade students. This year's topic is, “Why is habitat conservation important for wildlife and hunting?” Winners and their parent or guardian will spend a few hours, prior to the hunt, at the rifle range reviewing firearms safety and sighting in a rifle to be used on the hunt. Last year we had 5 winners and 4 of the 5 harvested an elk. Winners will also receive a hunting license or a Passport License and a Bannock Zone cow tag. If winners do not have a rifle, one will be provided for them to use. All costs for meat processing will also be covered. Entries must be submitted by October 22nd.
